Travel Recommendations
Since you're flying across the globe, why not stay a while? Whether you have a few days or a few weeks, we’ve put together our favorite ways to experience Bangkok and beyond!

Transportation
Flights
We recommend arriving a few days early to Asia to get adjusted to local time.
Our favorite airlines to fly to Bangkok are Qatar, ANA, Singapore Airlines & Cathay Pacific.
Other good options (but we haven't recently flown these) you could also filter on are: Emirates, Etihad, EVA, Korean Air,
Regional travel: If you're planning on flying domestically (within Thailand) or regionally (to Cambodia/Vietnam), AirAsia and Bangkok Airways are the most reliable carriers. We recommend booking these flights a few months in advance for the best rates!
*Due the unfortunate current events in the Middle East, we might suggest booking airlines that don't fly through the Middle East (Qatar, Emirates, Etihad) to lower the risk of your flights getting cancelled.
Bangkok
If you have a few days: Bangkok & Surroundings
Stay close to the action and soak up the energy of the capital.
Where to Stay
Wireless / Ploenchit (Our go to staycation spot)
- The Vibe: The prestigious heart of the city; leafy, upscale, and perfectly central.
- The Hotels:
- The Athenee: One of our neighborhood go-to hotels
- Park Hyatt: Sleek, modern luxury right above Central Embassy.
- Sindhorn Kempinski: Incredible architecture and world-class wellness facilities.
- Kimpton Maa-Lai: The "cool kid" on the block—great social vibe and pet-friendly.
- Aman Nai Lert Park: Ultra-exclusive heritage luxury.
- Okura Prestige: Refined Japanese hospitality with a stunning infinity pool.
Sathorn & Silom
- The Vibe: Sophisticated, home to some of the city’s best fine dining (and the wedding!). A mix of skyscrapers and quiet, leafy alleys.
- The Sukhothai Bangkok: Our home base and a true urban oasis.
- Dusit Thani: The legendary icon, recently reborn.
Riverside
The Vibe: Classic Bangkok. You’ll be taking shuttle boats to get around and waking up to views of the Chao Phraya River.
- The Mandarin Oriental: The legend. Even if you don't stay here, go for Afternoon Tea.
- Capella Bangkok: Ultra-luxury and modern; every room has a river view.
- Four Seasons
- The Siam: A stunning, art-deco boutique hotel further up the river for a quiet, "museum-like" stay.
Thonglor & Ekkamai
The Vibe: The "Polanco" or "Soho" of Bangkok. This is where you’ll find the best cafes, late-night bars, and community malls like The Commons.
- Hotel recs coming soon!
Ari
- The Vibe: A residential-turned-trendy neighborhood. Low-rise buildings, quiet side streets (sois), and a massive concentration of indie coffee shops. It feels like the "Brooklyn" of Bangkok.
- The Stay:
- Josh Hotel: A retro, cinematic boutique hotel that perfectly captures the Ari personality. Great courtyard and social vibe.
- Galileoasis: Not exactly Ari but closer to Siam and National Stadium. It’s industrial-chic, lush with greenery, and home to a theater and the iconic Piccolo Vicolo cafe. Pong & Max drop by here often since Pong's mom is involved with the space!
Essential Malls & Hangouts
- Central Embassy (Ploenchit): Our #1 favorite mall in Bangkok. Great restaurants, the nicest movie theatre and less crowded than other malls. Go to the top floor for Open House (a stunning bookstore/library vibe) or the basement for Eathai if you want high-end street food in the AC. Other malls we also recommend are Dusit Central Park, Emquarter/Emsphere, CentralWorld, Siam Paragon, One Bangkok (there are haters but we like it), Iconsiam (it's grand but can get pretty busy).
- Velaa Sindhorn Village (Wireless): The ultimate community mall for foodies. It’s leafy, walkable, and has a very "neighborhood" feel despite being ultra-luxe.
- Galileoasis (Ratchathewi): A hidden gem art community with a cafe, shops and food. Visit for the theater, galleries, and Piccolo Vicolo cafe. A short 5 min walk down the street is also Fishmonger - a great Fish n Chips spot!
- The Commons (Saladaeng or Thonglor): The original community mall. Great for people-watching and grabbing food or drinks in the open-air courtyard.

Beyond Bangkok
If you have a little over a week: Beyond Bangkok
Head North for mountains and culture, or South for some of the world's best beaches.
Chiang Mai (The North): A 1-hour flight. Think lush jungles, ethical elephant sanctuaries, and incredible night markets. It’s significantly cooler and more laid back than Bangkok. You can also go farther to Chiang Rai or Nan for a less crowded escape.
The Islands (The South):
- Phuket or Krabi: Best for dramatic limestone cliffs and iconic island-hopping tours to Phi Phi.
- Koh Samui: For a more "manicured" luxury vibe with incredible private villas and world-class spas.
- Koh Tao for a less crowded escape
Beyond Thailand
If you have a few weeks: Beyond Thailand
You’re already in the heart of Asia—might as well see the neighbors!
Siem Reap, Cambodia: Only a 1-hour flight from Bangkok. This is the gateway to Angkor Wat, one of the most incredible archaeological sites on earth. You only need 3 days here to see the highlights.
Vietnam: From the stunning limestone bays of Ha Long Bay to the charm of Hoi An (famous for custom tailoring!), Vietnam is a food and culture lover’s dream.
Luang Prabang, Laos: A UNESCO World Heritage town known for its preserved French colonial architecture, golden temples, and the sacred morning alms-giving ceremony.
Penang & Borneo, Malaysia: Visit Penang for some of the best street food in Asia and colonial history, or head to Borneo for incredible rainforests and wildlife like orangutans.
Singapore: A perfect urban hub. It’s ultra-modern, incredibly efficient, and has a world-class food scene that ranges from hawker stalls to Michelin-starred dining. If you fly Singapore Airlines you'll stop here.
Hong Kong: A high-energy hub known for its iconic skyline, world-class dim sum, and incredible shopping. It's a quick flight from Bangkok and perfect for a 3-day city break. If you fly Cathay Pacific you'll stop here.
Japan: A mesmerizing mix of deep tradition and futuristic energy. Kyoto is essential for temples and tea ceremonies, while Tokyo is a culinary and cultural powerhouse. If you fly ANA or JAL you'll stop here.
FAQs
Event Details
What is the dress code?
We will have a specific dress code for each of our events throughout the week. We’ll be sharing a detailed style guide and attire updates here as we get closer to the date, so please stay tuned!
Is the wedding "adults-only"?
Yes, our wedding, rehearsal dinner and welcome cocktails will be adults-only celebrations. We hope you understand and enjoy the chance to let your hair down!
Other events earlier in the week, Gathering in the Courtyard & Adventure Day, are kid-friendly!
What if I have a dietary restriction or allergy?
We will be sending out a specific questionnaire regarding dietary needs when we send official invitation RSVPs later this year. We’ll make sure the chefs have everything they need to accommodate you.
What time should I arrive for the ceremony?
We are still finalizing our wedding day timeline. We will update this section with exact arrival times once the schedule is locked in!
Whom should I contact with questions?
For now, please reach out to Max or Pong directly with any questions! As we get closer to the date, we will provide additional contact details for any last-minute or day-of logistics.
Is there a gift registry?
Your presence at our wedding in Thailand is truly the greatest gift we could ask for. If you would still like to honor us with a gift, we will be sharing details regarding our registry and gifting preferences here as we get closer to the wedding date.
Can I bring a plus-one?
Due to the intimate nature of our event, we can only accommodate a limited number of plus one guests. Our wedding events will also be adults-only celebrations. We hope you understand and enjoy the night off!
For those traveling with little ones, we'll share more details soon on how you can coordinate professional babysitting services so you can enjoy the evening's festivities.
Is there a farewell brunch?
Since daily breakfast is included with your stay at The Sukhothai, we won’t be hosting a formal brunch. Instead, we’ll be hanging out at the breakfast buffet on the morning after!
Travel & Arrival
When should I arrive?
To maximize your time adjusting to the time difference, we recommend arriving earlier in the week to Asia. You could go to the beach or mountains, or come to Bangkok early to explore the city. We’ll have optional, casual gatherings starting Tuesday, January 5th for anyone in town early!
Do I need a visa for Thailand?
Most guests (US, UK, EU) can enter visa-free for up to 60 days. You must have a passport valid for 6 months and complete the mandatory Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before arriving in Thailand.
DON'T FORGET TO COMPLETE THE TDAC BEFORE YOU TRAVEL!!
Which airlines do you recommend?
We’re partial to the service on Qatar, ANA, Singapore Airlines, and Cathay Pacific. Other good options we've also experienced are Emirates, Etihad, EVA, and Korean Air.
*Due the unfortunate current events in the Middle East, we might suggest booking airlines that don't fly through the Middle East (Qatar, Emirates, Etihad) to lower the risk of your flights getting cancelled.
How do I get from the airport to the hotel?
You can arrange a transfer directly through your hotel once your booking is confirmed, or use the Grab app (the local ride-share) for a quick and easy trip from Suvarnabhumi (BKK).
How can I use my phone in Thailand?
We recommend downloading an eSIM (like Airalo) before you land, or grabbing a local SIM card at the airport (AIS or DTAC have great coverage). You can also enable roaming on your phone but that can get expensive!
What will the weather be like?
January is the best time to visit Bangkok! It’s generally dry and sunny with temperatures around 25°C–30°C. It’s warm but pleasant, though indoor spaces are often heavily air-conditioned, so a light layer might be handy.
How should I get around Bangkok?
For the easiest experience, we recommend downloading the Grab app (the local version of Uber/Lyft), which is affordable and eliminates the need to negotiate fares. For bypassing the city's notorious traffic, the BTS Skytrain is a clean, air-conditioned, and fast way to move between major hubs like Ploenchit and Thonglor. To reach riverside spots like The Grand Palace or ICONSIAM, the Chao Phraya Express Boat (look for the orange flag) offers a classic, scenic route for a flat fare of around 16 THB.
What kind of power adapter do I need?
Thailand uses Type A, B, and C plugs. If you are traveling from the US, your plugs will generally fit, but the voltage is higher (220V). You may need a voltage converter for high-heat devices like hair straighteners or older electronics.
How much should I worry about Bangkok traffic?
Bangkok traffic is notorious! If you’re traveling anywhere, always give yourself an extra 30 minutes more than Google Maps suggests. Avoid rush hour whenever you can (Generally 7-9.30 AM, 4.30-7 PM)
I want to turn this into a bigger vacation—where should I go?
We love that! Whether you have 3 days or 3 weeks, we’ve put together a Recommendations Page with our favorite spots in the mountains, at the beach, and right here in the city to help you plan your dream Thai/Southeast Asia getaway.
Should I be worried about mosquitoes?
Since our events are outdoors, there will be extra care for "fogging" and prevention. However, we will also have repellent available at all outdoor events to keep you comfortable!
Accommodations
Am I required to stay at The Sukhothai?
You are not required to, but we highly encourage it! The Wedding will take place on-site, and staying at the hotel will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the celebration without worrying about Bangkok’s unpredictable traffic. It’s a beautiful urban oasis, and we’d love to have everyone together!
For The Sukhothai - why do I have to fill out a form instead of booking on the hotel website?
To ensure all our guests receive the exclusive group rate and are placed within our dedicated room block, the hotel requires you to book through our RSVP.
I filled out the form, but I haven't received a confirmation number yet. Is my room booked?
Yes! Don’t worry—the hotel will begin processing our full block and sending out individual confirmation emails starting in Summer 2026. As long as you submitted the form by the May 5th deadline, you are all set.
What if I want to stay longer or arrive earlier than the block dates?
The group rate is valid for stays between January 6–12, 2027. If you're planning a longer trip (which we recommend!), please note your requested dates on the booking form, and the hotel will do their best to accommodate you at the best available rate. The sooner you do this (ideally by end of Feb) the better your chances at getting our special rate!
Can I make special requests for my room?
Yes! Once you receive your official confirmation email from the hotel in July, you can reach out to them directly to coordinate any special room requirements (cribs, extra beds, etc.).
